PIAA District 3 Championships
The New Oxford Colonials Track & Field team qualified 6 athletes for the PIAA District 3 Class AAA Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University on Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th. For the Colonials,
Connor Becker and Ella Flickinger raced in the 400 meter dash.
Abdul Janneh competed in the Long Jump, where his second jump of the preliminaries advanced him to the finals. However, due to an injury during the event, Abdul was unable to complete and finished 9th place overall.
Owen Buhr competed in the 110 high hurdles, where he raced into the semi-finals. Unfortunately in the semi-final heat, Owen hit a hurdle and did not qualify for the finals. However, Owen returned Saturday with one goal - to make up for it in the 300 intermediate hurdles. He hurdled to Personal Best time of 39.56 to win his heat race. This time also earned Owen a 4th place finish overall and punched his ticket to the PIAA State Championship Meet.
Liam Hafner competed in the Triple Jump. Liam performed well enough to advance to the finals. In the final, he jumped to a Personal Best distance of 44 feet - 8 inches (a record by over 2 feet). This performance placed Liam 4th overall and guaranteed him a spot in next week's PIAA State Championship meet.
The final competitor of the weekend was Madi Smith. Madi threw discus on Friday, where she just missed the finals placing 10th. However, on Saturday, Madi led the Javelin Throw competition as the 3rd seed entering the event until the final round of throws. Despite a great performance, Madi placed 2nd in the competition. Her legacy as the District 3 Class AAA Record Holder in the Javelin Throw is intact after a competitive field. Madi also advances to the PIAA State Championship Meet.
